What to do when pulled over by a police officer:

The OPP want to continue to educate motorists by providing a checklist they can follow should they get pulled over by a police officer.

This checklist will make the traffic stop safer for the officer and motorist.

This may enable the motorist to have less stress and or panic while being stopped by police.

  1. Follow the officer's directions.

  2. Pull over as soon as possible.

  3. Leave the officer enough room to walk up to your car on the shoulder.

  4. Put your car in Park.

  5. Turn the engine off.

  6. Turn on four way flashers.

  7. Turn off your radio

  8. Roll down your window

  9. At Night, Turn on the interior light.

  10. Keep your hands where the officer can see them.

  11. Do not look in your glove compartment until you are directed to do so.
